These nails are collated in strips specifically designed for feeding into nail guns. There are various styles of nails available, including:

• Second Fix Gun Nails: Smaller, more discreet nails for neat finishes.

While many gun nails work in different guns, it’s always worth double-checking the compatibility of your nail gun before purchase. Often, it comes down to what size of nail your gun can hold, the angle it’s designed for (an angled nail gun doesn’t usually work with straight nails, for example) and what collation method it accepts (paper, plastic, wire, etc.).

Second Fix Brad Nails

Brad nails are one of the most popular styles of second fix or finishing nail. Their discreet design makes them perfect for adding final fixes to delicate woodwork, such as framing, skirting boards and other trims.

Unlike first-fix nails, brad nails are very thin, often around an 18-gauge (1.2mm diameter). This means it doesn’t have as much holding power as a first-fix nail.

What a brad nail loses in strength, however, it makes up for in its discreetness. Brad nails have a tiny head that can be almost invisible when punched into wood, allowing an exceptionally clean finish.
